Weekly Beats 18: (James is OK, James is Cool, I’m not bothered)

Week 18 (James is OK, James is Cool, I'm not bothered)

This track is a little out there. The aim was to make someting using randomized textures from my Portable synth and started with the FM synth On the OP1.

I ran it through an LFO so its operators would randomly change frequencies and their signal path four times in a bar. From that basis I then added layers of different textures on the OP1 all of which were randomised by the LFO to create sounds I hadn’t heard before.

All Textures are from the OP1 although a few guitar samples were used and processed through the OP1:

Weekly Beats 17 (Weak)

Week 17 (Weak)

I’ve been a bit lax posting up my weekly beats tracks on here, So I’ll amend that over the following few weeks.

On Week 17 I decided to go back to basics and just play a piano, After several sessions of improvisation I worked out the piece, recorded it several times and then picked the best take which is what you can hear by clicking the link below.

Occasionally it’s good to get away from the electronics and to the raw development of a track. There is nothing better than just putting your thoughts and ideas down in their elemental form and sitting in front of a piano does that for me:

Weekly Beats 15 & 16

The Past two weeks tracks made for weekly beats work together as a pair so I thought I would include them both together. Week 15 entitled Otdel Mokrykh Del is one big and dark swell of electronica before the guitar driven track Bloodlines kicks in on week 16.

Have a listen below:

Weekly Beats 14: (Vera Rubin)

Week 14 (Vera Rubin)

This week I went a little more experimental. The original idea was to have two melodies, one on piano and one on an electric piano which over every 12 bars increased and decreased an octave so by the middle of the piece the interweaving melody were in the same octave before drifting apart. It also means that the bass melody and lead melody switch between the beginning and end of the piece.

I then added drone elements with guitar and synth to create an otherworldly sound, I have focused heavily on panning the instruments so they all have some space to breathe which may mean if listened to in mono it may not come out as planned.

Due to the songs circular repeating nature I thought I would dedicate it to Vera Rubin, American female scientist who pioneered work on how galaxies rotate and gathered evidence towards the theory of dark matter. A legendary Figure who needs more recognition.

Weekly Beats 12: Camberwell Beauty

Week 12 (Camberwell Beauty)

This weeks track wraps up the winter collection of music which will be bundled together to download soon. I wanted to send off the winter with a completely acoustic tune so I sat in front of a fire with an acoustic guitar and wrote Camberwell Beauty. It’s different to my usual stuff and I hope you guys enjoy it:
