TOTW: Disasterpeace_ Panacea

Disasterpeace made one of my favourite game soundtracks when he composed the music for FEZ. Since then he has been busy working on other varied soundtracks for film and game. Showing his wealth of skills as a composer.

The Hyper Light Drifter soundtrack goes back to the sound design used in FEZ but adds a little organic instrumentation to the mix. Exemplified in this solo piano piece entitled Panacea.

The piece revolves around an incomplete motif that the track continues to return to without ever concluding. Leaving the listener with a sense of anticipation and longing, a desire that is never fully resolved. The arrangement is then perfectly supplemented with its production as the piano resonates within a space that manages portray both an intimacy and a distance:

My Love for the FEZ soundtrack has been mentioned many times on this blog and it deserves to.

Disasterpeace managed to create a soundtrack that both suits the game perfectly but also stands the test of time for its own with instrumentation and melodies that manage to excel for remixing.

Solar Fields did this as part of Side F of the Fez Remix album for the track Puzzle and turned an uplifting and bouncy track into something slower and allot darker. I really like the sence of power throughout this track as it slowly ebbs and flows to its conclusion:

The FEZ Soundtrack is truly remarkable. It manages to convey a vast array of emotions with a limited palate. Age consists of a throbbing synth line that feels like it could lose control and fall apart at any moment.

With a collection of single notes the track manages to hold a majesty and grandeur worthy of the tracks title:

TOTW: Disasterpeace_Synchrosynct

This week I’m going back to highlighting music from video games. FEZ was a wonderfully complex puzzler that manged to develop its world to such a level of detail that it felt natural. The game is a real pleasure to just spend time in, aided in part by the brilliant score by Disasterpeace.

This Synth heavy soundtrack influenced by chiptune has been remixed by a collection of artists into two albums entitled Side F and Side Z. The original score of FEZ Manages to create allot with a very limited pallet due to the amount of detail in each part of the tracks.

This detail creates lots of great hooks throughout the soundtrack wich provide inspiration for the remixes found on these two albums. Synchrosynct is The opening track from The Side F Remix album and from Disasterpeace himself. The Track opens with a disorienting Syth note which Gives way to a sidechained Compressed Kick drum and Large open snare similar to most house music. Its bold and brash and I love it:
